Curatescape has undergone some major changes. You can read more about the project we’ve dubbed Curatescape Core on curatescape.org. The gist of it is that we’re putting our attention into a new standalone plugin that is broadly compatible with most themes, not just those designed specifically for Curatescape. In consolidating and reorganizing the Curatescape functionality, we’ve deprecated several plugins and made breaking changes to the existing Curatescape themes. If you have older sites that use the deprecated plugins and/or old versions of a theme, you’ll need to follow these steps closely to migrate to the new architecture.
First, you’ll want to make sure your sites are running the latest versions of the old plugins.
Part One
1. Install final versions of deprecated plugins
- CuratescapeJSON (1.5.4 / final release)
- TourBuilder (2.0 / final release)
- CuratescapeAdminHelper (1.6.5 / final release)
2. Install newest compatible versions of Curatescape themes
- Curatescape Echo (1.5.8.1 / final compatible version)
- Curatescape Classic (3.5.4 / final compatible version)
3. Complete the updates by logging into each site and navigating to the plugins page to complete the final steps
4. Update Omeka
- Omeka Classic (3.1.2 or greater / current release)
If you’ve been having issues with your old sites, this might have been enough to get things working again, though you will still be at a crossroads. Going forward, there is a single Curatescape plugin that controls most behavior. It’s available from the Omeka plugin directory. To migrate to the new architecture, take these steps next:
Part Two
1. Backup your sites
2. Deactivate (but do not uninstall or remove) all plugins
3. Install the latest version of the new Curatescape plugin
- After activation of Curatescape Stories & Tours, complete the process by reviewing and saving the plugin settings
- This moves all your TourBuilder tours forward to use the new plugin architecture
4. Optional: Install the latest version of the new Curatescape Galleries plugin
- Curatescape Galleries is not technically required but will be useful if you’re using the Classic theme or one of the other themes available from the Omeka themes directory.
4. Optional: Install the latest version of the new Curatescape SEO plugin
- Curatescape SEO is not technically required but is recommended.
6. Install the latest version of the new Geolocation plugin
- After activation of Geolocation, complete the process by reviewing and saving the plugin settings
7. Uninstall and remove the following plugins:
- TourBuilder
- CuratescapeJSON
- CuratescapeAdminHelper
- SuperRSS
IMPORTANT: If your sites have tours you want to preserve, take care to uninstall Tour Builder only after installing, activating, and saving the settings for the Curatescape Stories and Tours plugin to ensure your tours are migrated.
